Austria has been included in the BioStrategy Atlas as one of the countries with an official national bioeconomy strategy. The platform provides a global, evidence-based overview of bioeconomy strategies. It covers national and supranational strategies and analyses them according to a range of categories.
The BioStrategy Atlas assesses the strategies of the countries represented using a consistent framework, taking into account strategic priorities, governance and implementation, sectoral focus areas, indicators, and other key elements. This makes it possible to compare Austria’s bioeconomy strategy with national approaches in other countries. At the same time, the Atlas provides a basis for cross-country knowledge and experience sharing and helps identify opportunities for cooperation and further development.
Austria’s approach is characterised by a strong focus on renewable biogenic resources, sustainability, and the transition away from fossil resources. The national bioeconomy strategy combines the sustainable use of agricultural, forestry, and other biogenic resources with cascading use, circular economy principles, and the production of higher-value products. At the same time, research and innovation, climate action, biodiversity, resource efficiency, and regional value creation are integrated into the strategy.
The BioStrategy Atlas is aimed at policymakers and researchers, as well as companies, investors, and other organisations seeking an overview of national bioeconomy priorities and emerging opportunities.
