eLABoration Wood

eLABoration Wood provides a new digital education offering for Austria, making knowledge about forests, wood, climate and the bioeconomy available across different levels of education. Designed as an official FFG Education Lab, the platform supports general and vocational education and training with quality-assured, practice-oriented and digitally accessible teaching and learning materials – from kindergarten through to master craftsperson training and bachelor’s degree programmes.

eLABoration Wood has been developed since 2023 under the leadership of FH Salzburg. More than 100 experts from across Austria contribute their specialist knowledge to the project. The central objective is to present up-to-date content on forests, wood, timber construction, climate and the bioeconomy in a clear and accessible way, to facilitate access to sound knowledge and to complement existing education and training offers in a targeted manner.

Materials for General and Vocational Education

eLABoration Wood is aimed at teachers and learners along the entire education pathway: early childhood educators, pupils, apprentices, students, lecturers and trainers. The platform distinguishes between materials for general education and materials for vocational education and training.

In the field of general education, free teaching materials are available from kindergarten through to upper secondary level. They are intended for educational institutions without a specific forestry or wood-related focus and convey topics related to forests and wood in an age-appropriate and interdisciplinary way – for example through individual teaching units, playful learning approaches or practice-oriented tasks.

For vocational education and training, the platform provides comprehensive content on wood technology, wood processing and manufacturing, timber construction, the timber industry and relevant legal aspects. Particular highlights include extensive materials on civil engineering, construction operations and construction economics, as well as legal frameworks.

Comprehensive Content and Easy Access

eLABoration Wood currently comprises around 4,000 pages of professionally reviewed documents, as well as approximately 1,000 flashcards, practice questions, experiment instructions and additional learning materials. The content can be read online and downloaded as PDF files. A dedicated app is also available. Use of the platform is free of charge and intended for educational purposes.

Registration is straightforward: learners can sign up with just a name and password, without providing an email address, and gain access to scripts and learning materials. Teachers provide additional information, including an email address and proof of their teaching activity. Each registration is reviewed individually. Once approved, teachers receive extended access, including solutions and additional functions.

Register and Test the Platform Now

eLABoration Wood is currently in its first test phase. Around 6,000 users and 100 teachers have already registered – and the numbers continue to grow. Feedback from practical use is being incorporated into the further development of the platform and its materials.

In this way, eLABoration Wood makes an important contribution to education in the fields of forests, wood, climate and the bioeconomy. The platform combines professional quality, digital accessibility and sound pedagogical-didactic preparation – supporting both general and vocational education for a biobased future.
