Straw Bale Construction in Theory and Practice

On 7 and 8 May 2026, a two-day workshop on straw bale construction will take place at HLBLA St. Florian. Under the title “Straw Bale Construction in Theory and Practice”, participants will gain insight into the opportunities and limitations of straw as a building material, complemented by hands-on activities. The workshop is aimed in particular at consultants, teachers, and other interested participants.

The aim of the workshop is to introduce participants to straw as a building material, to explore its potential for sustainable construction, and to understand the limits of using straw bales. Participants will work on key quality criteria and different construction methods in straw bale building. Alongside theoretical foundations, practical work plays a central role: participants will have the opportunity to try out measuring and working tools and to build straw bale structures together.
