The 11th edition of “Basic Data on Bioenergy” published by the Austrian Biomass Association has been released, marking its 25th anniversary. The brochure provides comprehensive data on energy consumption, renewable energies, and in particular on the use of biomass in Austria.
Facts and Figures on a Quarter Century of Bioenergy
It offers a sound data foundation for anyone interested in the development and utilization of bioenergy in Austria. Since the year 2000, the use of bioenergy has doubled. In 2023/24, for the first time, more bioenergy was used for residential space heating than heating oil and natural gas combined. District heating, 55% of which is generated from biomass, is not included in this figure. Biomass also plays a key role as a renewable energy carrier in the transport sector.
