Initiative (COLI) on Sustainable Forest-based Bioeconomy Approaches, BMLUK

Austria to Host Global Wood Bioeconomy Summit 2026

Austria will host the Country-Led Initiative on Advancing Sustainable Forest-based Bioeconomy Approaches (CLI-ASFBA) in Vienna in February 2026. The initiative forms part of the broader Country-Led Initiative (COLI) process, which includes a series of activities supporting the work of the United Nations Forum on Forests (UNFF) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

The Global Summit “Advancing Sustainable Forest-based Bioeconomy Approaches” will serve as a key platform for international dialogue and cooperation on forest-based bioeconomy strategies. Discussions will address central topics such as:

  1. Scaling up financing for sustainable forest-based value chains
  2. Innovative and resilient supply chains for forest products
  3. Agroforestry systems as integral components of a circular bioeconomy
  4. Sustainable wood construction and its role in climate-smart development

The outcomes of the CLI-ASFBA and related COLI activities will feed into the UNFF21 session and the 28th Session of FAO’s Committee on Forestry (COFO28), contributing to the global agenda on sustainable forest management and bioeconomy innovation.

Venue: Schönbrunn Palace, Schönbrunner Schloßstraße 47, 1130 Vienna, Austria
Date: 23.–25. February 2026
