On 20 May 2026, the BOKU Future Conference 2026, held under the theme NO WASTE: How Bioengineering Closes Loops, will bring together experts from academia, industry, and society for a full-day event in Vienna.

The conference focuses on practical solutions for the circular economy, ranging from circular feedstocks and the use of microorganisms as cell factories to novel technologies for climate-friendly bioprocesses and innovative materials based on renewable resources. Leading BOKU researchers, international speakers, as well as students and start-ups will provide insights into current developments and present ideas and solutions for a sustainable future. Participants can expect a diverse program featuring keynote lectures, panel discussions, and networking opportunities.

The event will conclude with an evening programme, including the opening (vernissage) of the exhibition WASTE IS A MYTH, which offers new perspectives on resources, cycles, and survival within closed systems.
