SEG Market Report 2025

The Renewable Gas Service Centre (SEG) has published its Market Report 2025, providing a comprehensive overview of renewable gases in Austria.

The report covers a broad spectrum: it analyses the existing plant fleet, market mechanisms, as well as structural and energy-related framework conditions, business models, and funding schemes. A key section focuses on market and cost structures: What factors influence investment and operating costs? How do pricing mechanisms work? What role do certification and guarantee-of-origin systems play? International markets and European regulations—such as RED III, as well as quota and database systems—are also assessed in the Austrian context. Comparative trends from countries that are more advanced in renewable gases highlight what is possible and under which conditions markets can develop successfully.

The report makes it clear: renewable gases in Austria have not yet reached their full potential. Missing market signals, complex certification systems, and unclear regulatory responsibilities are slowing progress. At the same time, the report outlines concrete recommendations for action, including the further development of the legal framework, the simplification and harmonisation of certification and trading systems, and stronger support for market participants through targeted information and improved coordination.
