Biomethane, Wood Gas, Hydrogen

Wednesday, 10 June 2026
09:30 – 17:00
Vienna

With the conference “Biomethane, Wood Gas, Hydrogen – Using Them Together”, an event will take place in Austria for the first time that specifically brings together experts from the fields of biomethane, wood gas, and renewable hydrogen. The aim is to strengthen exchange between these expert communities, foster mutual learning, and identify concrete synergies to support the expansion of renewable gases.

Renewable gases play a central role in ensuring a secure, sustainable, and regionally anchored energy supply. The conference is based on best-practice examples intended to provide impulses for accelerating the development and application of renewable gases. Particular focus will be placed on security of supply, regional value creation, and the targeted use of synergies between different gas pathways.

System Integration of Renewable Gases

The central topic of the conference is the system integration of renewable gases, meaning the interaction between production, grid connection, storage, and demand. Technical quality requirements for the gases will be examined, as well as the availability of suitable feedstocks and the development of reliable regional supply chains.

The conference connects three key perspectives:

  1. Technological maturity and applicability of biomethane, wood gas, and renewable hydrogen based on concrete practical examples
  2. Infrastructure questions, including the injection of CH₄ and H₂ into existing gas grids and the strategic choice between converting existing networks or building new ones
  3. Regulatory and economic framework conditions, particularly certification, accounting mechanisms, and funding schemes that significantly influence investment, planning security, and the speed of implementation

In addition, the conference will discuss which development pathways are viable in different regions under current framework conditions. Topics such as feedstock availability, the establishment of regional supply chains, permitting and financing processes, as well as the role of certification systems and accounting mechanisms for market acceptance and investment security will also be addressed.
