The workshop is the first out of three within the pilot action „Towards a Danube Bioeconomy RTI Strategy for appropriate regional added value chains“. The Danube Region stretches from the Black Forest to the Black Sea and is home to 115 million inhabitants. Currently the Danube Region countries‘ average GDP per capita only reaches about two-thirds of the level of the EU-28 Member States and there are major development disparaties within the Danube Region, which hinder social, economic, and territorial cohesion. The aim of the workshop series is to create a position paper that recognises regional discrepancies as well as similiarities and to create a network that induces a thriving exchange between universities and ministries across the whole region in the field of Bioeconomy.
The workshop took place on 14th March 2016 in Vienna. The next Workshop is scheduled for 24th May 2016 and will take place in Timisora, Romania.
