{"id":9957,"date":"2025-12-09T11:03:57","date_gmt":"2025-12-09T10:03:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bioeconomy-austria.at\/?p=9957"},"modified":"2025-12-10T08:25:31","modified_gmt":"2025-12-10T07:25:31","slug":"alps-session-bei-austrocel-hallein","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bioeconomy-austria.at\/en\/2025\/12\/09\/alps-session-bei-austrocel-hallein\/","title":{"rendered":"ALPS Session at AustroCel Hallein"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As part of the Austrian Leadership Programs (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bmeia.gv.at\/themen\/aussenwirtschaft\/alps\/\">ALPS<\/a>), organized by the Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bmeia.gv.at\/\">BMIEA<\/a>), Werner Balika, representing Innovation Salzburg and Bioeconomy Austria, accompanied an international delegation (27 participants) to our network partner <a href=\"https:\/\/www.austrocel.com\/\">AustroCel Hallein GmbH<\/a> on 26 November 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In his presentation of the company, Wolfram Kalt (CEO AustroCel) outlined the historical development from a traditional paper mill to a modern biorefinery. A key success factor in this transformation was\u2014and continues to be\u2014the recognition and consistent implementation of bioeconomy and circular economy principles as an opportunity to diversify the company\u2019s activities at the Hallein site. Competitiveness is achieved in combination with sustainability through the cascading use of material and energy streams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The new product portfolio was illustrated through numerous innovations. A current highlight is a biogenic hydrogel that features excellent water retention and controlled release properties, and has recently become commercially available under the brand name <strong>Retentis\u00ae.<\/strong> Numerous questions from the ALPS delegation underscored the strong interest in AustroCel Hallein\u2019s business model.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the conclusion of the visit, Werner Balika outlined Innovation Salzburg\u2019s strategy for implementing the Tech4Green priority area of the Salzburg Science and Innovation Strategy 2030 (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.salzburg.gv.at\/fileadmin\/Dateien\/Forschung\/WISS2030.pdf\">WISS 2030<\/a>).
