{"id":8147,"date":"2025-03-14T09:52:17","date_gmt":"2025-03-14T08:52:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bioeconomy-austria.at\/?p=8147"},"modified":"2025-03-14T10:08:11","modified_gmt":"2025-03-14T09:08:11","slug":"nachhaltiger-leichtbau","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bioeconomy-austria.at\/en\/2025\/03\/14\/nachhaltiger-leichtbau\/","title":{"rendered":"Sustainable lightweight construction"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>At the Landshut <a href=\"https:\/\/www.haw-landshut.de\/netzwerke-cluster\/cluster\/cluster-detailseite\/veranstaltungen\/landshuter-leichtbau-colloquium\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.haw-landshut.de\/netzwerke-cluster\/cluster\/cluster-detailseite\/veranstaltungen\/landshuter-leichtbau-colloquium\">Lightweight Construction Colloquium 2025<\/a>, Holzcluster Steiermark and Innovation Salzburg \u2013 as part of the Bioeconomy Austria network \u2013 jointly organised a two-hour session in collaboration with the  Hochschule Landshut on the topic: &#8220;Lightweight Construction with Renewable Raw Materials.&#8221; Leading experts discussed how wood and wood hybrids can serve as innovative lightweight materials, providing new impetus for technical applications, construction, and the mobility sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Potential of Biogenic Lightweight Construction: Innovations from Research<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Renowned research institutions and companies from Austria and Germany presented the latest developments in lightweight timber construction and showcased pioneering solutions. The vision: to establish wood as a sustainable lightweight material and highlight resource-efficient applications for wood and wood hybrids. A particular focus in the mobility sector was placed on:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Reproducibility:<\/strong> enabling the industrial application of lightweight timber construction<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Adhesive systems:<\/strong> facilitating sustainable and high-performance bonding solutions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Digitalisation of processes:<\/strong> developing robust and scalable solutions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In this context, <strong>Dr Thomas Krenke<\/strong> from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.innovationszentrum-weiz.at\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.innovationszentrum-weiz.at\/\">Innovation Centre W.E.I.Z.<\/a> provided insights into the research project <a href=\"https:\/\/www.carpentier.at\/index_de.html\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.carpentier.at\/index_de.html\">CARpenTiER<\/a>, which explores sustainable lightweight timber construction concepts for the automotive industry. The objective is to establish wood as a high-performance structural material \u2013 a climate-friendly alternative to aluminium or composite materials. <br><strong>Dr Frederik Obermeier<\/strong> from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.th-rosenheim.de\/die-hochschule\/labore\/additive-fertigung\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.th-rosenheim.de\/die-hochschule\/labore\/additive-fertigung\">TH Rosenheim<\/a> demonstrated how wood-based regenerated cellulose fibres can be used as reinforcement for polypropylene, with a focus on material and process engineering investigations. <br>At the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fh-salzburg.ac.at\/campus-leben\/standorte\/campus-kuchl\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.fh-salzburg.ac.at\/campus-leben\/standorte\/campus-kuchl\">Campus Kuchl<\/a> of FH Salzburg, <strong>Dr Thomas Sepperer<\/strong> is researching promising biogenic materials such as tannin foams and provided valuable insights during the session.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>Future Growth of Biogenic Materials in Lightweight Construction<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Landshut Lightweight Construction Colloquium 2025 impressively highlighted the key role of biogenic materials in mobility, as well as in future construction and packaging solutions. The valuable exchange with experts from science and industry underlined the immense potential of wood as a sustainable material in lightweight construction.
