{"id":10507,"date":"2026-03-19T15:37:56","date_gmt":"2026-03-19T14:37:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bioeconomy-austria.at\/?p=10507"},"modified":"2026-03-23T15:15:45","modified_gmt":"2026-03-23T14:15:45","slug":"expedition-zukunft-challenge-nature-based-solutions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bioeconomy-austria.at\/en\/2026\/03\/19\/expedition-zukunft-challenge-nature-based-solutions\/","title":{"rendered":"Expedition Zukunft: Challenge Nature-based Solutions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As part of the current <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ffg.at\/ChallengeNBS\">FFG call <em>\u201cExpedition Zukunft: Challenge Nature-based Solutions<\/em><\/a><em>\u201d<\/em>, projects and innovations can be submitted until <strong>August 20, 2026 (12:00 noon)<\/strong> that apply functional principles from nature to technical, industrial, or societal applications. The call is launched within the framework of <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ffg.at\/expedition-zukunft\">Expedition Zukunft<\/a><\/em>, funded by the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.stiftung-fte.at\/\"> National Foundation for Research, Technology and Developmen<\/a>t via the Fonds Zukunft \u00d6sterreich, and takes into account the national implementation of the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ffg.at\/europa\/heu\/missions\/nationale-umsetzung\"> EU Missions<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Climate change is increasingly putting pressure on natural ecosystems in Austria. More frequent extreme weather events, prolonged heatwaves, and changing precipitation patterns highlight the need for new solutions. Nature-based Solutions address these challenges by drawing on natural processes and transferring them into various application areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The call focuses on projects that make measurable contributions to soil regeneration, the protection of water resources, and adaptation to the impacts of climate change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Funding opportunities<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Two types of projects are funded:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Collaborative R&amp;D projects<\/strong>: funding of up to EUR 300,000 with a funding rate of up to 85%. The maximum project duration is 24 months. A consortium is required, with an SME acting as the consortium lead.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Feasibility studies (exploratory projects)<\/strong>: funding of up to EUR 100,000 with a funding rate of up to 89%. The maximum project duration is 12 months. Individual applicants are eligible.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The call is open to a wide range of applicants, including small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), universities and research institutions, non-profit organizations, associations, individuals, and start-ups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For further information, the FFG will host a webinar on <strong>April 7, 2026 at 11:00 AM<\/strong>, providing detailed insights into the call and the opportunity to ask questions.
